The objective was to create a series of animations in Adobe AfterEffects which would help further push the designs created during the first semester of the Communication Design program. The idea was to experiment with incorporating motion and animation principles into previously static designs created without motion in mind.
Selection of Design
The first step was to revisit the old designs created in the first semester. Since I needed to select one from each category to animate, the selections were based off which ones appeared the most visually interesting when complete.
Storyboarding/Sketches
The next step was to create a series of sketches that would help outline the way the animation would be structured, eventually turning into proper storyboards. Since the vertical composition is simpler than the others, sketches were created that focused on ideating the entire direction of the animation instead of being presented in a step-by-step format. Each composition received handmade sketches before digital work began.
Completed Animations
After the completion of the storyboards, the next step was to recreate them in Adobe AfterEffects. Here, I was able to apply the principles of animation to bring my designs to life.
